How to get your boiler ready for Spring

Many have heard of the phrase "Spring Clean," and many still do it as they prepare their homes for the new season. However, have you ever considered giving your boiler a thorough cleaning as part of your Spring Clean process?

Your boiler has served you well during winter, so now is the time to make sure it's ready for the spring and summer months by following the tips put together by our heating engineers.

Time To Spring Clean Your Boiler

Consider a powerflush

A build-up of dirt and sludge could affect the function of your heating system and radiators. A power flush will help get rid of any debris, allowing it to function more efficiently and be ready for the next season.

Turn down the temperature on your thermostat

The weather starts to warm up during Spring and so does your home. This is a great chance to lower the temperature on your thermostat, even if it is by 1 degree. Doing so will massively reduce your heating and energy bills.

Check for leaks

Boiler leaks are common, especially after your boiler has worked hard throughout the winter. The reason for this is that as the temperature increases, the pipes expand and crack, causing leaks.  You should check the seals around your boiler to ensure all it is connected and working correctly.

Are you hearing any strange noises?

If you hear any gurgling or bubbling noises, it indicates that there is a problem that requires the intervention of a Gas Safe engineer. While the chances of a problem are minimal, the sooner you recognise it and address it, the less likely you are to have serious problems.

Think of getting a new boiler

Has your boiler caused you issues this winter? You may want to think about upgrading it. There are many options to choose from, speak with a professional engineer to help you choose the right boiler for you and your home. A newer boiler is energy efficient and will have fewer chances of breaking down.

Also replacing your existing boiler with a new one during Spring will help ensure it is ready for the winter as well as be better for any work because it allows you to leave your windows open to help with ventilation while your new boiler is getting installed by a professional heating engineer.

Book a boiler service

By scheduling boiler service now, you will avoid any unwanted surprises next winter. Booking a boiler service is straightforward and quick, and it ensures that your boiler is running safely and correctly. All boiler service checks should be carried out by a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer.

The reason you should hire a Gas Safe registered engineer is that they are fully trained and qualified to work with gas and have their work regularly assessed. Also, if you are a landlord, it is a legal requirement to ensure the safety of your tenants by hiring a qualified engineer to service gas appliances on your property.
